Ottawa, ON – James Bezan, Conservative Shadow Minister for National Defence, and the Hon. Rob Nicholson, Conservative Shadow Minister for Public Services and Procurement, issued the following statement:
“Today, we learned that Justin Trudeau is cancelling EX MAPLE FLAG, an important training exercise that the Royal Canadian Air Force conducts annually with Canada’s allies. Unfortunately, this is not the first time the Trudeau government has failed to support our men and women in uniform.
“The decision to cancel this exercise comes after it was revealed that the Trudeau Liberals intend to move jobs out of CFB Cold Lake. The consequences of this failure is fewer training opportunities for our pilots, fewer opportunities to showcase the Armed Forces for Canadians, and ultimately the erosion of Canada’s defence capabilities.
“Conservatives have said from the start that the Trudeau Liberals are repeatedly failing to adequately fund and equip the Canadian Armed Forces. Justin Trudeau has completely botched the Liberal procurement process by first proposing, and then abandoning, a plan to purchase 18 Super Hornets. Now he’s planning to purchase used jets from Australia, a plan that the Auditor General has estimated will ultimately cost $3 billion.
“Andrew Scheer’s Conservatives will ensure that the Canadian Armed Forces have the support and resources they need to maintain a state of readiness. The defence of Canada demands no less.”
