Ottawa, ON – The Honourable Erin O’Toole, Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs, and James Bezan, Shadow Minister for National Defence, issued a statement following a request from President Poroshenko to show solidarity with Ukraine and support the Crimea Declaration as articulated by the United States in recent days:
“Since Vladimir Putin’s illegal invasion and annexation of Crimea, Canada’s Conservatives have been a leading global voice demanding an end to Russian occupation of sovereign Ukrainian territory.
“The Trudeau government has continued the approach advocated by the Conservatives, including extending the Canadian Armed Forces mission to Latvia and passing Conservative Magnitsky legislation.
“We are calling on the Government of Canada to show both its support for Ukraine and solidarity with our NATO allies by offering full support to the Crimea Declaration, and confirming that sanctions imposed over Russia’s actions in Crimea will not be repealed until Russia returns control of Crimea to Ukraine.
“Now, more than ever, Canada must stand with Ukraine to show the passage of time does not allow illegal and immoral actions by Russia to be accepted.”
